We are an interactive design and development studio. We use great design and a multidisciplanry approach to solve problems in ways that are smart, unexpected, and beautiful.
Kiosk and Website for Vancouver
For their national design conference, the American Institute of Graphic Arts needed a guidebook that encouraged attendees to discover the host city. In keeping with the environmental theme of the conference, we instead developed an interactive kiosk and website that both saved paper and overcame the typical back and forth between printed maps, multi-paged indexes, and descriptions. By rolling all three into one intuitive interface, visitors can easily bounce from one view to another, following their interest. In lieu of writing down notes on paper, users could SMS information to their cell phones. The site is an award winner of the 2004 Communication Arts Interactive Annual and is featured in the book AIGA:365, honoring the year’s best design.
Microsoft's new Flight Simulator X is leaps and bounds better than its predecessors. How do you build excitement within its deep and knowledgeable fan base? By giving them what they want. We created a fun interactive experience that presents the most important content in ways that are imaginative and appropriate. Four sections of the site present the new features using methods unique for each, from interactive before and after imagery to explaining shared flying through motion-designed storytelling.
In the words of our client:
Just wanted to say thanks for the great work on the FSX site. You guys really came through. Across the board, everyone loved the site. Plus you were able to integrate the print ad campaign concept extremely well, and you delivered it ahead of schedule. Great work!
Branding and Website for Groundbreaking Radio Station
As an eclectic radio station with a broad local, national, and international listenership, KEXP needed an identity that would reflect its wide reach and a site design that would showcase its commitment to technology. Their studio equipment inspired the final iconic logo, and the intuitive website has already proven itself as a strong foundation for searchable streaming archives, extensive playlists, and continued growth. Winner of the 2004 Webby for Radio Websites and the Plug Award for best College/Non-Commercial Radio Station Of The Year
Website Design
Rise of Legends is a rich and textured Windows Vista gaming experience challenging you to lead vast armies into the battle to create a global spanning empire. All the while, guiding a young inventor to unravel his world’s ancient past and unite its people against unimaginable threats. The PC Games group at Microsoft called on us to create the game website and convey the rich story through an experience that matches the game feel and scope. We rose to the challenge and created a rich interface that features XML driven content for ease of update, custom created illustration in a renaissance style consistent with the game feel, and a unique navigation structure for site content.

Propel Biofuels
Biodiesel is our most viable alternative fuel. However, a lot of work still needs to be done to educate consumers, businesses, and governments about its benefits. Propel Biofuels came to us with the goal of creating a website to help promote biodiesel in a way that's honest and easy to understand while also helping highlight Propel's clients and their consulting services. The website fulfilled these agendas seamlessly, achieving Propel's wide-ranging business objectives.
Campaign Site for National Product Launch
Advertising agency Sedgwick Road came to us to create a website to expand upon Nintendo’s “Who are you?” ads launching the new colors of the Game Boy Advance SP. The Start Mayhem website functioned as the centerpiece of the campaign allowing viewers to experience how the new Game Boy Advance SP colors become a means of self expression. We included streaming videos to define each personality, and an online test let each viewer find the color that best matched their personality. We launched new videos every few weeks, encouraging consumers to check back in and view the new Game Boy Advance SPs as they became available. 2nd place winner in the Imedia Connection “Best in Show” competition.
Website Design
A Seattle fixture for the hip crowd, Top Pot Doughnuts needed their established cool physical brand of their hand crafted one-of-a-kind stores translated online. The site is designed to reflect the 1940-1950 time period sensibility that is characteristic to their branding. The site, along with unique interactivity and navigation, features XML driven content for ease of update and a set of downloadable backgrounds. The result of our design efforts has been well received by the community and the many Top Pot fans.
Born Magazine pairs writers with designers to collaborate on poetry. In lieu of a direct visual representation, we invented a universal poem reader that uses the collective associations made possible by the Internet to create unique representation at each reading. The seamless interface makes possible a dialog between the poet's words, Flickr photographers, and the reader.
Xbox Game Website
The Xbox game publishing team, along with the game producer, BioWare, Canada, needed a very different experience crafted for their groundbreaking game Jade Empire. “The Jade Empire Web site did a fantastic job of fully capturing the brand identity of the game and playing a major role in a tightly integrated overall marketing campaign (print and media).” Said Brad Shelton, site manager, Xbox.com. “It presented the game in the best possible manner to our target audience, all the while taking full advantage of the online medium with all of its subtle interactions, game-specific nuances, and entertaining presentation.” The game website needed to have a very cinematic feel, very similar to the Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon narratives. Given the game subject matter and heavy Chinese history influence, the website needed to be engaging and designed appropriately, while flexible to allow quick content localization for the foreign markets. The site was very well received by game producer and publisher alike.

The Xbox game publishing team, along with the game producer Rare, needed an experience crafted for their Xbox Live game Conker: Live & Reloaded. The game microsite needed to capture the irreverence of Conker and all of his pals while having a tongue-in-cheek “Saving Private Ryan” feel. Given the fertile subject matter and World War II influence, the website needed to be both engaging and designed with brand voice in mind, as well as flexible to allow quick content localization for the foreign markets.
Website Design
As the region’s largest energy provider, Puget Sound Energy was facing the challenge of providing targeted information and communication to their varied customers: residential users, businesses, builders, and investors. In a collaborative effort led by PSE’s Philip Malkin, information architect Max Carmichael and the designers of IF/THEN, we updated the previous site’s inflexible design and created architectural components that can adapt to change as PSE’s communication needs grow. The site structure and information was reworked and logically grouped, visual cues were created to lead consumers to relevant information, and a new homepage was designed to drive audiences to sections of their own. To help maintain consistency across the site, IF/THEN created a comprehensive style guide to act as a reference for PSE’s in-house development team. The overall success, from planning to final design, was a result of PSE’s ongoing commitment to better serve its customers.

As a prestigious Northwest college, the Seattle University boasts a lengthy history and a legacy of Jesuit commitment to education. With a student population of 6300 and a wide range of undergraduate programs, the Seattle University needed a redesigned presence that communicates effectively the dedication of the university to educating the whole person in the quest of professional formation. Website Design & Development
As the holding arm of Puget Sound Energy, Puget Energy’s website had different goals than the consumer-facing PSE website. Investors needed both a high-level view of the company and easy access to detailed financial reports. Our design and development of the website made both types of information easy to find in a structure that is easy to update as new reports become available. The interactive and graphic design re-brands the company using a visual language that appeals to the investor and analyst audience alike.

Starbucks International website template set.
We tried to make everything show instantly that the site is fun and "Starbucks". The information architecture is simple and the content is rich. Taking our cue from the Starbucks branding and visual presence, we established a visual vocabulary that allowed, with maximum flexibility, the content to be presented with a unique and undeniable Starbucks voice. The information architecture had to allow for expansion while allowing the relevant content cross promotion buckets to be easily distributed across the site.

When introducing Vitality to their constituency, the design had to express
the brand in a new and dynamic way while keeping true to the Regence values.
